A while ago some friends and I met in an old basement.
It didn’t smell too bad, but the lighting was pretty bad. One of my friends closed the door and said “Alright ya’ll, here we go.”
That was the night that my friends and I had prayed to receive the Holy Spirit.
For me it was a little weird at first, but I just started to pray, and that weird feeling went away. It didn’t go away just because I ignored the feeling, but because that’s when I finally understood what the Holy Spirit was for.
Before that day, I didn’t really understand who the Holy Spirit was, and what part of “God” He was. I knew God the Father, and Jesus, but the Holy Spirit was a mystery to me until that day.
What helped me gain understanding about the Holy Spirit was first, someone taught me about Him, and used scripture to explain who He is and what He does for me.
Even still, I had to let my guard down. (Just a little bit at first)
I know that for a lot of us, talking about the Holy Spirit can seem different or weird, but most times it’s because we have our own idea of Him, either something that someone told to us or it’s what we “think” He is.
I want to encourage you that when it comes to learning about the Holy Spirit, first you have to let your guard down a little bit.
Then, take some time to learn about who He is, and how He helps you in your walk with God.
Ephesians 1:17- “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” (NIV)
Prayer - God, help me understand who the Holy Spirit is, and how He helps me as I walk with you. In Jesus, Amen
